| While all of us would love to breed vWD Clear to Clear and are striving to produce vWD Clear lines in our breeding programs, there is absolutely no reason not to utilize the vWD Carrier. The Carrier has the exact same wonderful characteristics and qualities to offer the breed as a Clear, so why throw the proverbial 'baby out with the bath water'! We really are 'cutting our nose off to spite our face' when ignoring that gorgeous Carrier Manchester. The above chart provides a full explanation of the results you would end up with when breeding these two genotypes. Granted, breeders must realize they should not breed Carrier to Carrier nor Carrier/Affected to Affected. To never utilize the Carrier is diminishing our already limited gene pool even more. As responsible breeders, we simply need to test our sire/dam to ensure one is clear and test our litters. |
